Umareru (生まれる, "to be born") is a 2015 animated short film created by Himawari Gakkyu, a Nico Nico Douga user. It is about the disruption of the world caused by human parasites. The film won the championship and Ida Kazutoshi's Jury Prize at the 15th MMD Cup. It was created with MikuMikuDance(MMD), a 3D computer graphics software, and the MMD model of Sonshi.

Overview

The film was created for the "Miscalculation" event of the 15th MMD Cup. The preliminary version was uploaded on 17th July, 2015, and the final version on 17th August. An agent Nullp03 contributed to the victory at the cup.

Himawari had won the Fighting Spirit Prize at the 14th MMD Cup by "Akuma" in the past.

Plot

In a law firm office, a pregnant accountant Karasawa Hiroshi and a lawyer Karasawa Takahiro give a birth to a strange baby whose head is similar to a body of human. Having their colleague Yamaoka look after the office, they take it to a park for a walk. The baby makes a sudden dart at a girl who is playing there and kills her.

They return to the office. They find Yamaoka dead there. His neck is broken. Takahiro smiles, saying "Yamaoka, you are also born."

The baby is in reality a human parasite. It propagates rapidly in city, killing citizens one after another. After almost all humans have disappeared, Takahiro becomes pregnant too. The last scene shows a new baby starting out of his mouth.

Selection Committee Review
【Brief Review】
At first I paid attention to "something cute and erotic" out of these works, but it shocked me! It poisoned me!

【General Review】
Ha, Happaku-san?

I have taken part in Japan Media Arts Festival as a selection committee for 3 years.
I have strived to face all the submitted works there.
For example, in case of games, I always play it until I notice the "interestingness" of it.
Thence I devote all of my attention to this work in September and October.
It was the first "MMD Cup Final Selection" for me. I tried to comfortably take it for the preliminary skirmish of the devoting process, but everything was beyond my imagination.
The amount of works, quality, and depth, everything is terrific....... What enables them???
Thinking I should take it easy at "selection", I pulled myself together and keep seeing the videos sloppily with my arm's length. But "Umareru" didn't allowed it.
It stung me.
I don't mention the relationship between the meaning of placing "Sonshi" as the protagonist (I searched Nico Nico Pedia for the original) and the grotesque story line because thinking it oppresses my spirits.
However, the film is so attractive for the creatures' figure suggestive of "Hellraiser" (coalesced body is cool), and for the neat story line of too quick the disruption of the world which recalls dry feeling of "Pulse."
I give Jury Prize to "Umareru" without hesitation as a respectable horror film for its high perfection and its convincing existence.
